I'm Back: Part 1

Hello... again.

I'm back from my unannounced hiatus and I have alot to say. That just sounds bad. It's good though, don't worry. But today I'll just cover what I'll talk about in upcoming posts.

The List of Mys (And Other Things)
  • My Trip To Canada
  • My Ex-Girlfriend
  • My Band
  • Quite Possibly A Web Review
  • My Summer

Seeing as it's short, we'll just cover that last bit of news now. My summer is going great and I've been busy hanging out with friends most of the time.

Thank you for reading and I think my posting might pick up some regularity soon.

A Salute to 5

Seeing as this is the fifth post, I am going to make it something special: A salute to the number 5. So here's a little break down on 5's stats:

  • 5 is a prime number

  • In binary, 5 is 101

  • 5 is the third prime number (after 2 and 3)

  • 5 comes after 4 and before 6

  • The Roman numeral for 5 is V.

You with your hat and turning corners all the time (if that makes sense to anyone, tell me). Without you, I wouldn't know how many fingers (including thumbs) I have. You're one of the more famous numbers, with many mentions of your great name.

  • 5 is an album by Lenny Kravitz

  • The Jackson Five, Ben Folds Five, Maroon 5, and Five for Fighting are all bands

  • Hall of Fame Baseball players Hank Aaron, Joe DiMaggio, Johnny Bench, and Brooks Robinson all wore the number 5

  • 5 is the chemical symbol for boron

  • There are 5 Olympic Rings

  • Subway has a $5 foot-long campaign featuring people holding up 5 fingers

  • The Proclaimers had a song titled 500 Miles

  • The Pentagon in Washington, D.C. has 5 sides

  • The first 5 books of The Bible are called the Pentateuch

  • Jason Kidd's jersey number is 5

5 is quite the dynamic number. Most people use it every day and don't even realize it. They simply take 5 for granted and never thank it. That's why I say thank you, 5. You're always there when we need you and no matter the challenge, no matter how big or small the task is, you will always be there to help. Here's to you, 5. We love you.

On May 5, 1955, Melinda Culea was born. She had roles in such classic TV series as The A-Team, Family Ties, Murder, She Wrote, and The X-Files. But, while entertaining, that's not the reason I'm typing this all up. The reason she is mentioned is because of her birthday. 5/5/55. There are no words to even start describing how hard 5 was working on that day to make that happen. 5/5/55 won't happen for another couple decades, so those that were alive on that day should rejoice that they were there. It was most likely a magic day. My point being something I forgot a couple sentences ago. Ah, right. Melinda Culea. Classic TV actress, (probably a) wonderful person with a (most likely) amazing personality. And she used to be hot*. Seriously, if you don't know who she is, Google her. She was really hot*.

In conclusion, let's take a look back at this post. There are 5 bullet points in the first list. 10 (a multiple of 5) bullet points in the second list. And, to wrap it all up, 5 paragraphs. Or 5 groups of words, anyways. I really don't think these would count as paragraphs. (One last, pre-asterisks thing: There are 5 syllables each in the blog name and the post title. I just thought I'd share that with you.)

*The use of the word hot above is used in a totally non-misogynistic and completely respectful way. I do not mean to offend anyone by using it like that, so please don't be hurt. Thank you. Oh, and by the way, this doesn't count as a paragraph because that would throw off the theme I'm going for.

The Band

As I mentioned in my first post, I am in a band and I play guitar and sing. I am the rhythm guitarist, lead singer, and sort of the manager as well. I coordinate all the practices and stuff like that. Our name (at the moment) is Split Lip. We can currently play the following:

  • Nirvana - In Bloom and Smells Like Teen Spirit
  • Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train
  • Black Sabbath - Iron Man and Electric Funeral
  • Jimmy Eat World - Pain
  • Slayer - Dead Skin Mask
  • Green Day - Holiday
  • Some original songs that I've written

So that should give you some idea of what kind of music we play. Our lineup is as follows:

  • Me - Lead Singer and Rhythm Guitar
  • M - Lead Guitar
  • E - Drums
  • I - Bass

We did, at one point, have I (the bassist, not I as in me) on rhythm guitar and E on bass with a fifth person, S, on drums. That didn't work out because S had other, more important commitments so he decided to leave. I have nothing against him, it's just he decided to go. Our new and current lineup is working fine.

If anyone has any ideas for songs, a name, or ideas for songs I could write, just leave a comment and tell me.

The Cold and My Day Off

It is cold out!

Today, I was out of school because it got so cold. It has been extremely cold the last couple of days and it has snowed between six inches and a foot. The high was right around 9F today and with wind chill it was closer to -20F. So anyway, I didn't have school today and I was planning on posting something earlier but didn't get around to it until now. And I was busy, kind of.

Last night, I went sledding at my friend's house. We'll call him M. Anyway, at M's house, we went sledding at this hill over near there. Parts of it were steep enough you could get going pretty fast and some of it wasn't as steep, which was better if you just wanted to go for a longer run. We had some fun and the temperature was down to about 6F when we left. Just before we left, I took off my hat, gloves, and coat and went to the top of the hill in my t-shirt and pants and went down again like that. (I realize that was stupid but I felt like doing it anyway.)

Today, with my day off, I played Rock Band 2 for the Wii. It is one of my favorite games, along with Guitar Hero: World Tour. Oh yeah, I should mention that I heard Guitar Hero: Metallica Edition is scheduled to come out sometime in March. I'm so excited! (I was supposed to tell you about my day. I'm getting off track. Back to the point.) Today, I got up at around 9:30 and had a late breakfast/brunch/early lunch thing at like 11. And, besides play Rock Band all day, I made a mask out of duct tape, thumbtacks, and Velcro. That took up about two hours of my day so it was a good time waster. (I might post a picture of the mask in a later post if I remember.) And my ex-girlfriend texted me today. Turns out she wants to be friends. We'll see how that goes.

Web Review: Runescape

I may, from time to time, review things. I will post my thoughts here on anything I review. Today I am going to review Runescape. This is my first review so please understand if I don't cover all of it.

Anyone know what Runescape is? Didn't think so. Yeah, anyway, it is an MMORPG created by Jagex, Inc. It is very much like a Java-based version of WoW (World of Warcraft for all you non-nerds) or D&D (Dungeons and Dragons). I have played this game on-and-off for many years.

You start off in this tutorial zone and there you learn all this stuff about how to play.

Oh, I should mention it is free to play but there is also a pay-to-play service that adds over 10x as much content. I was a member for a couple months a year or two ago and it was overwhelming at first. But, once you get used to it, you're pretty much fine.

The graphics could be better but are pretty good considering it's free to play. There are a couple different graphics settings you can choose. There is a low quality setting which is still pretty nice. Then there is High quality which has more textures on things and it looks twice as good as low quality. Then there is full screen which is just High quality but in full screen. The layout of the buttons and chat menus are a little different on full screen. Lastly, there is an HD setting. This is a members-only feature and is by far the best. This should only be used on a faster computer, though, because it lags a lot on slower computers.

There is a chat feature used to talk to other players in the game. Jagex tries to make their games very family-friendly so there is a censor used on chat. It is very strict down to the point they don't let you say your password so that other players can't take it. I think it is a very useful feature and really lets you enjoy the game without having to worry about people going around dropping the f-bomb.

I have a user in the game and I'm alright at it. I'm right in the middle. I'm not like the best player but I'm certainly not the worst. His name is Mtn._Man. So, if you decide to start playing, add me as a friend and I'll (probably) be able to help with whatever you need. Well, I'll make my best effort to do so. Oh, yeah, I probably need to include the URL so you know where to go if you want to play. The URL is http://www.runescape.com/.

Hello

Hello. My name is H. It is important to know I'm in high school because I might write about my classes or stuff like that. I like to write things occasionally so anyone that may stumble upon this can read all they want.

Yes, so, I think since this is my first post I will tell you a little about myself. I like to listen to music and my favorite band right now is Metallica. Some of my other favorite bands include Slayer, Exodus, Tungsteno, Megadeth, and Ozzy Osbourne. I also play guitar and sing in a band.

I might not write a lot and I might write tons, it all depends on the day. And yeah, I think that about wraps it up for this post.
